Indoor Air Quality Q&A
Many customers submitted questions during the live Zoom event, and we were not able to answer all during the scheduled time. Please see below for a list of all questions received along with answers provided by our presenters.
Please reach out to your representative at The Granite Group for more information about these and other great indoor air quality products.
Q: How often does the ion generator need to be replaced? A: The ion generators do not need to be replaced, just cleaned or wiped off 1 a year or with a can of compressed air. |
Q: What are the minimum and maximum ductwork sizes needed? A: There is no minimum or maximum size on ductwork. |
Q: Does the mini-split coil need to be cleaned regularly? A: Yes, the mini split coil do need to be washed. |
Q: How do I size units appropriately to their space? A: There's a handy calculator available on the Aeroex website. Visit their Air Purification page, at the bottom of which you will find the calculator to help with sizing. |
Q:What is the filter life? A: Carbon - 6-12 months or as needed, HEPA - 18-24 months or as needed |
Q:What are the differences between HEPA filters? A: Certified medical grade filters are tested for efficiency and particulate size (99.97% at 0.3 microns) as well as airflow. The difference between having a certified HEPA filter vs HEPA media is in the performance. The competition using HEPA media in filters has a much higher particulate reading on the “clean air” exhausted when introducing contaminants in a test. The certification guarantees that 99.97% of all particulates 0.3 microns and larger will be trapped in the HEPA filter in the first pass through. |

Q: Can the COVID Virus be transferred through the Renewaire Core? A: The RenewAire enthalpy-plate exchanger does not transfer viruses or bacteria between airstreams. The exchanger transfers water vapor in the form of individual molecules absorbed into the membrane, transported across the membrane as bound water molecules, and desorbed into the other airstream. Viruses are much larger and cannot be carried along. However, exchangers and units typically do have small leak paths and if static pressures in the exhaust air compartments of the unit are higher than in the supply, some recapture of exhaust air is possible. |
Q: Can a HEPA filter be used in a Renewaire unit? A: No. The filter racks in RenewAire units are intended for maximum MERV-13 filters and are not provided with the specialized seals needed for HEPA filters. |
